Wine Guide

Everything you need to know about storing wine.

01

Why Temperature Matters

Wine is a living liquid, continuously evolving. Temperature is the single most important factor in wine storage. Ideal serving temperatures vary: sparkling wines and whites at 6–10°C, light reds at 12–14°C, and full-bodied reds at 16–18°C. Fluctuations above ±2°C can accelerate aging and cause premature oxidation.

02

The Role of Humidity

Humidity between 60–70% keeps corks moist and prevents unwanted air from entering the bottle. Too dry and corks shrink; too humid and mould can develop on labels. A quality wine cooler maintains this balance automatically.

03

Vibration and Wine

Constant vibration disturbs sediment in aged wines and disrupts the complex chemical reactions that contribute to a wine's development. Dunavox coolers use compressor technology specifically engineered to minimise vibration, protecting even the most delicate vintages.

04

Light Exposure

UV light degrades wine through a process called "light strike," producing unpleasant aromas. Tinted glass doors and interior LED lighting that emits no UV radiation are essential in any quality wine cooler.

05

Dual Zone vs. Single Zone

A single-zone cooler maintains one temperature throughout — ideal if you focus on either reds or whites. Dual-zone coolers feature two independently controlled compartments, allowing you to store and serve both at their optimal temperature simultaneously.

06

Built-in vs. Freestanding

Built-in and under-counter models are designed with front ventilation, allowing them to be installed flush within cabinetry. Freestanding models require clearance on all sides. Integrated units sit behind a matching door panel for a seamless kitchen aesthetic.
